Entry Requirements

TYPICAL OFFER

Foundation Degree: Pass on the second year of a foundation degree in a relevant subject. 

HND: Pass grade in a relevant subject. 

International qualifications: International qualifications will be assessed against these criteria  

IELTS: IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any component. 

Mature applicants: University Centre Leeds welcomes applications from mature* applicants who may not have met the academic criteria, but who can demonstrate a wealth of experience in their chosen field. Candidates in this category and otherwise are likely to be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and may be asked to provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application.

RPL claims: The course structure actively supports claims for Recognition of Prior Certified Learning (RPCL) or Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL). 

Part Time: Students for part time study are required to hold a full level 3 qualification or the equivalent experience in a relevant subject and will need to be working in the sector.  

Health Management (Community pathway)

Whether you’re already working in the healthcare sector or recently completed your studies in this area, we’re here to take your career in healthcare management to the next stage.  

You’ll master the fundamentals in policy and governance and strategy implementation in healthcare, before choosing to specialise in a community or clinical pathway. Here you’ll choose from modules in sustainability, communities and societies, collaborating with stakeholders, and data analysis. 

Choose from full-time or part-time, face to face or distance learning, study to balance your work and personal commitments.  

Gain real practical experience in our industry-standard facilities and broaden your understanding on topics in management with relevant theory. To prepare you for the next stage of your career, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to gain valuable work experience through our strong partnerships with local care providers.

Course Information

The modules listed below are for the academic year 2025/26 and represent the course modules at this time. Modules and module details (including, but not limited to, location and time) are subject to change over time.

Modules may include:

Major Independent Study (40 credits) 

This module is your opportunity to conduct an in-depth exploration of one health management issue, drawing on the skills and knowledge developed on the course. You’ll be encouraged to critically evaluate contemporary research and theory as well as contributing original insights and ideas to health practice. Through independent study and research, you’ll develop your skills in managing an extended project and the ability to apply health management theories in real-world contexts. 

Leading Through Change (20 credits) 

In this module, you’ll be encouraged to develop your understanding of key priorities and considerations when leading through change in the health sector. You’ll be able to consider how a health manager should implement strategy with its potential impact for changes to operations. 

Policy and Governance (20 credits) 

Lead the way in planning and strategy implementation in the healthcare sector. You’ll enhance your knowledge and understanding of regulatory bodies, legal requirements and political drivers that influence policy and governance within the healthcare sector. During the module, you’ll also have the opportunity to design a new policy that can be implemented in the workplace. 

[Community Pathway]  

Sustainable Health Strategies (20 credits) 

Through this module, you’ll learn how to introduce sustainability within current and emerging health challenges. You’ll be able to analyse relevant approaches and principles and consider health outcomes with minimal environmental impacts. 

Communities and Civil Societies (20 credits) 

Explore the roles, dynamics, and impact of organised groups, networks, and institutions in fostering social cohesion, collective action, and democratic participation. 

Our assessment methods are tailored to simulate workplace assessment giving you the first-hand experience and skills needed for employment.

You’ll be one of the first to study at our new Mabgate Campus, located close-by to public transport and the city centre.

Our facilities are equipped with a specialist clinical suite and sensory room, which aim to simulate real-life environments to make sure you’re learning and practising in realistic facilities. You’ll also have access to state-of-the-art virtual reality equipment, which will help to develop your experience working in real-world healthcare environments.

Progression from this course can include postgraduate study or progression to various healthcare and management roles in the health management industry.
