Lily Ramm, a Level 5 student on the Foundation Degree Creative Hair and Media Makeup (Fashion & Editorial) course, is making the most of her time at UC Leeds by embracing new opportunities and developing her professional skills.

Reflecting on her journey so far, Lily describes her experience at UC Leeds as incredibly positive. With the guidance and encouragement of her course tutors, she has been able to pursue opportunities that she previously didn’t think would be possible. One of her most recent achievements includes working as part of the makeup team for the 2026 Leeds Rag Fashion Show.
Although the experience initially felt daunting, Lily stepped outside of her comfort zone to take on the challenge. “I was nervous for this, as it was something new that I hadn’t done before,” she explained. “But my tutors guided and supported me the whole way through, and it definitely paid off.” The opportunity allowed her to gain valuable hands-on experience in a live fashion environment and further build her confidence within the industry.

Lily also highlighted the importance of practical assessments within the course, particularly the photoshoots completed. These sessions provide students with the chance to showcase their creative and technical abilities in a professional context. “The photoshoots we do for our assessments are such a great way for us to show off our skills,” she said. “Being able to show our work in a practical way, for me, is the best way.”
Looking ahead, Lily is excited to continue her progression onto Level 6 and is eager to see what new opportunities await.
