You’ll discover an array of learning and pedagogical models and how to apply them to your personal subject. Our modules cover multiple areas of knowledge within the post-14 sector ranging from theories of teaching to exploring inclusivity and contemporary issues in education.
You’ll analyse different perspectives on learning and pedagogy. You will also research and recommend practices that you can enact in your own classrooms. Through gaining a broad understanding of different teaching methods and practices, you’ll apply your newly acquired skills and experience to your professional context.
This course is available as a full-time or part-time route. The part-time route is for anyone employed as teachers of post-14 learners. The full-time route is for those who are not yet employed as teachers.
Take your teaching skills to the next level with our Certificate in Education. This course will provide you with a theoretical and practical understanding of teaching, learning and assessment in the post-14 sector.
This course will develop your teaching skills and allow you to reflect on education practices. You’ll gain a nationally recognised qualification that enables you to teach in further, higher or adult education and training.
We are incredibly proud to announce that we were graded 'GOOD' in our most recent ITE Ofsted inspection (January 2023). The following aspects of practice were highlighted in the Ofsted report:
"Mentors set meaningful, individual targets for trainees to develop their teaching skills and to provide support to prepare trainees for their future roles."
"Mentors and department leaders ensure that trainees are fully embedded in the day-to-day work of the departments in which they work."
"Tutors and mentors encourage apprentices to explore and apply different learning theories in their teaching and to critique what works well and what does not. As a result, trainees select different approaches to teaching confidently and are unafraid to experiment in their classrooms to suit the needs of their learners."
We are committed to developing the local skills needed to support growth in West Yorkshire. This is seen in the huge range of subjects our students specialise in from traditional English and maths and vocational subjects like engineering and motor vehicle to tech growth areas like game design and E-sports. This breadth means that subject experts are teaching and developing skills for jobs and life in West Yorkshire.

Many of our trainees gain employment in the Luminate Education Group (LEG). Their experiences on placement allow for a clear demonstration of progress and teaching expertise which the host department do not want to let go. The time on placement also allows for a real and deep understanding of the ethos and culture of the department and the wider group. In taught university sessions we talk about finding a job and institution that matches your values and it is pleasing that for so many of our students they find that on placement. As a result, this very often translates into trainees gaining employment within that placement department. For example from our full time cohort in 21-22 10/17 got a job within the LEG. All of those were within their placement department.
Whilst we are proud of the pipeline of teachers to the LEG we are also pleased that our trainees gain employment at different educational institutions because it demonstrates that their training is recognised and respected outside of the group. Indeed 5 of our trainees from 22-23 are employed at 5 different institutions.
There is also the real potential to progress into paid employment in the placement organisation or other Further Education institutions.
