Start of a new era as international student recruitment begins

First steps towards a global reputation

We are delighted to announce that we are now extending our provision to welcome international students for the first time.

Having just gained the licence that is needed, we will be accepting applications from up to seven overseas learners this academic year.

The plan is to build on that going forward, as the University Centre Leeds establishes its name on the world stage.

As well as the benefits to the University Centre Leeds, the development will also bring benefits to our students, creating an international hub where ideas, cultures and experiences can be shared. This allows us to take our dedication to EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) to an international level.

First steps towards a global reputation

Dean of Higher Education, Dr Sarah Marquez said: “This will broaden the diversity of our student body in a very positive way for both staff and students.

“We will be starting small, in terms of numbers, as it takes time to develop a reputation internationally. But we’re looking forward to welcoming our first international students and, as we move ahead, expanding our provision to accept more.”

Expanding our recruitment to include learners from overseas is, alongside the creation of our new replacement campus at Mabgate, in the city centre, a key part of our growth plans.

Our new campus (design concept pictured), which will be fitted out with a range of cutting-edge facilities, is part of a wider £27m development. The scheme will also involve creating a new building for our sister institution, Leeds City Colleges', English for Speakers of Other Languages provision at Mabgate.
