QUALIFICATION: Certificate in Education (Cert.Ed) (Optional at a reduced cost of £700)
As an apprentice, you’ll gain the skills to deliver engaging and effective lessons that help learners achieve their goals. You’ll learn how to plan and deliver up-to-date, inclusive teaching across a range of levels—mostly up to Level 3, but sometimes higher. You could find yourself working in specialist colleges, with adult learners, or even in settings like offender learning or large organisations. Many Learning and Skills Teachers bring both industry and academic experience to their role, and this apprenticeship helps you build that dual expertise, so you can inspire and support every student to reach their full potential.
You will need exposure to relevant workplace experience in order to gather evidence that meets the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours outlined in the Professional Standard.

Research-Informed Teaching, Learning, and Assessment:
This module explores theories of teaching and learning, and how to apply them in practice, including assessment strategies.
Becoming a Subject Specialist Teacher:
This module focuses on developing subject-specific knowledge, understanding how to teach that subject, and identifying and responding to student needs.
Professional Practice:
This module involves practical teaching experiences, such as microteaching or placements, and includes feedback on performance.
Curriculum Design and Development:
This module explores how to design and develop effective curricula that meet the needs of students.
Behaviour, Wellbeing, and Safeguarding:
This module examines the factors that influence student behaviour and well-being, and how to create a positive learning environment, including safeguarding practices.
Inclusive Teaching and Learning:
This module focuses on understanding and meeting the diverse needs of learners, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
You will be assessed throughout the duration of your apprenticeship. Assessment methods include practical observations, knowledge assessments, assignments and projects.
To conclude your apprenticeship, you will complete an End-Point Assessment (EPA).
These assessment methods provide a well-rounded approach to ensuring that apprentices gain the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their careers, and help employers evaluate the apprentice’s progress over time.
You will meet with your Apprenticeship Assessor every 4 weeks, remotely, for approximately one hour. During this session, your assessor will help you gather workplace evidence and link your curriculum learning with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) that make up the apprenticeship standard.
Weekly curriculum sessions will begin in September and conclude in June/July. Each week, you’ll log in remotely for about 4 hours (excluding school holidays). These sessions are designed to help you complete your qualification, the Level 5 Certificate in Education. While the live sessions are not recorded for GDPR reasons, all supporting resources and materials will be available in the remote ‘Blackboard’ area.
Upon successful completion of the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship, you could go on to complete a BA Hons degree in Education. Job opportunities this apprenticeship may open include:
