I am a student currently studying FD Fashion, Theatrical and Media Hair and Make Up at Leeds City College’s University Centre, I also previously studied Level 3 Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Makeup at Leeds City College and A Level History, Theatre Studies and Art and Design at Greenhead College which have all individually influenced my pathway into the makeup industry.
I have had an interest in the makeup industry from a young age since performing and eventually swapping to working behind the scenes in both dance and theatre productions. When studying theatre at college I decided to specialise in backstage training, including makeup and costume design, lighting design, set/prop design and stage management, this all helped me to understand how much care, detail, time and precision goes into curating events and performances. While my experience predominantly lies in theatre, I feel very passionate about the fashion industry and explored textiles and the foundations of fashion within my college art and design course. Fashion has captivated me the most since starting university as I find it to be a great way to capture creativity and individuality while breaking societal boundaries and expectations.
My university experience has helped me to become a more confident and independent individual, I have enjoyed all the modules, especially learning sculpting skills for flat moulds and prosthetic pieces, fashion forecasting and how to transform historical fashion trends into modern, editorial looks, creating postiche pieces and how to professionally apply them and working alongside mentors to improve not only my practical skills but also my interpersonal skills, generally becoming a more professional makeup artist ready for industry. Once I have completed university I would love to explore and expand my knowledge and gain experience in all sectors of the makeup industry, especially fashion.
