What is the Luminate Partnership for ITT?

The Luminate Partnership for ITT is an agreement between members of Luminate Education Group and its partners to accelerate the supply and preparation of high quality teachers, through the provision of non-traditional routes into teaching.

University Centre Leeds, a member of Luminate Education Group, is the training provider for the range of ITT courses that are on offer to trainees. The programmes are underpinned by an integrated curriculum that connects classroom and centre-based practice. The Luminate partners will offer mentoring and placements, providing irreplicable opportunities.

ITT courses available

University Centre Leeds currently offers two non-traditional routes, both of which will result in trainees finishing with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Unlike traditional routes, our top-up is available to any undergraduate who has completed two years in the relevant subject area while our apprenticeship is available for those with an undergraduate degree. Courses available are:

Teacher Apprenticeship (with QTS) Level 6

BA (Hons) Learning and Teaching (Secondary Education) (with QTS) Top-Up

Development opportunities

Development opportunities which you will be able to participate in include:

Strong support for new and trainee teachers across the Luminate Partnership for ITT, with frequent opportunities to meet and work with other professionals across the sites, so that effective practice can be shared and developed
The opportunity to conduct your own research alongside specialist teachers and middle leaders as part of your professional development
The opportunity to, work with, and learn from, middle leaders who are able to model good practice and inspire you to achieve your best

Specialised settings

Through the partnership, you will have access to a large number of specialised settings. The experience you gain within these specialist settings through your compulsory alternative placement experience is invaluable and will enhance your professional profile and skills. Settings include:

Special schools deemed outstanding by Ofsted and settings where a large proportion of pupils have multiple vulnerabilities in addition to their special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)
Pupil referral units for pupils who have social, emotional and mental health needs, including associated difficulties and learning difficulties
Settings for pupils with severe and complex needs, disadvantaged pupils and those who are looked after by the local authority
Alternative provision academies for pupils who have been excluded, or are at risk of exclusion, from a mainstream school
Schools where the proportion of pupils are from minority ethnic groups and who speak English as an additional language
Schools with a very high proportion of pupils who come from disadvantaged backgrounds

Focus of key national priority areas

Facilities included in the Luminate Partnership for ITT

The facilities across the Luminate Partnership for ITT are available to all trainees studying any of our ITT (QTS) routes, irrespective of their placement setting. Trainees will have access to up-to-date teaching environments in each of our placement settings and specialist facilities across the partnership will support high quality training provision for all trainees.

Teacher Development Centre

A new, purpose-designed teacher development centre, with extended opening hours, has been built for use by trainees from the Department of Teacher Training, Learning and Development.

The centre will be home to the central quality, teaching and learning teams. Trainees will benefit from an immersive teacher development environment where practising teachers from across the group will be able to access support, CPD and development opportunities.

University Centre Leeds

In addition to the specialist teaching and learning library available within the Teacher Development Centre, University Centre Leeds provides a range of study facilities, accessible only to Higher Education (HE) Students. The key features of the centre are listed below:

Who are members of the Luminate Partnership for ITT?

The Luminate Partnership for ITT consists of the following partners:

Collectively, the partnership consists of approximately 40 schools and academy settings, including specialist alternative provision. These are largely based in the Leeds City Region, but also include schools and academies as far apart as Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.
