Certificate in Education (Post-16 Education and Training) (Specific Educational Needs (SEN))(In-Service)

The Level 5 Certificate in Education (Post-16 Education and Training) (Specific Educational Needs (SEN)) (In-Service) course is designed for teachers of students with Specific Educational Needs (SEN) in the post-16 sector.

This Level 5 in-service (whilst teaching), 2-year part-time course is appropriate for the post-16 education and training sector. A degree is not required for entry onto this programme.

A minimum of 100 hours of relevant current group teaching over two years is required.

The programme provides content knowledge and professional practice skills relating to subject specific pedagogy in SEN practice. It aims to build a shared understanding of effective teaching and learning within specialist SEN practice across a range of complex and changing contexts in the Education and Training Sector.

There will be opportunities to interrogate a range of national and international perspectives on SEN learning and pedagogical models to inform and improve practice. Trainees will research and recommend practices that they can enact in their own classrooms.

Through innovative teaching and learning strategies such as collaborative teaching and in-the-moment coaching, this in-service, part-time course aims to model practices that trainees can enact in classrooms across different curricula and changing contexts in the sector.
